A PRAGMATIC LENS MISSION

TO HELP BUSY FAMILIES INCORPORATE MORE OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

I constantly read about families that quit their jobs and fulfilled their dreams to travel the world. We see how they are able to live these extraordinary lives and we think to ourselves: well…good for them.

That’s not us. We are an ordinary family. We have jobs, school-aged children, and plenty of bills to pay. Yet we have learned to incorporate our passion for adventures and the outdoors.

And I want to share with you how you can do it too.

TIPS FOR FAMILY ADVENTURES

While it is nice to be spontaneous, heading out the door also requires a certain degree of planning, preparation, and equipment.

In this section, you will find tips and ideas to help you plan more adventures. You will also read about the best gear for outdoor families, as well as safety tips when venturing in the wild.

FAMILY CAMPING

Camping has been our go-to getaway for the past two years. It is an affordable way to get out of our work and school routine and enjoy quality outdoor and family time.

In this section, I will share tips and gear to make family camping work, whether you prefer tent camping or whether you are ready to try out RV camping.

OUTDOOR DESTINATIONS

This section includes thorough reviews of places we have camped at and parks we have visited. I also include summaries and round-ups of the best places to visit with your kids.

Because we are currently based in Naples, FL. Most of our trips involve camping in Florida and Georgia campgrounds.

About me

My name is Rosanna. I am a biologist, a mother of two, and a nature photography enthusiast. I live in hot, humid Southwest Florida and I am happily married to another biologist. We have a six-year-old boy, a four-year-old girl, an old beagle, and an older pug. I have the fortune of working from home as a science and math online university instructor.

I love all things photography and the outdoors. As a family, we currently enjoy saving as much money as we can so that we can spend it traveling and camping. We love going out on adventures and we rarely stay home for a whole day. It seems we are always on the move!

My Roots

I was born and raised in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. While I am Venezuelan by birth and by heart (try to keep me from dancing merengue, salsa, and tambores), I also have significant European heritage, mostly Basque from my mother’s side, and a bit of Italian from my father’s side.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Due to the deteriorating conditions in my home country, my family and I moved to Florida shortly after graduating from high school in 2001. I attended Florida Atlantic University, where in 2006 I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology. In 2010 I earned my Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of Central Florida. During my time in graduate school, I authored and co-authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Once I finished my studies, I had the opportunity to work in academy and industry for a few years.
